Artists in Schools Program

The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council

is pleased to announce

the recipients of our 2013 Artists in Schools grants

(formally called the Artists-in-Residence program)

The grants are awarded to PreK-12th grade teachers and classrooms in the Shoreline School District. This program has been providing arts education throughout the district since 1993 with the majority of funding made possible through the Shoreline Arts Festival GALA event with additional support from the Shoreline Public Schools Foundation, government and foundation grants and the community.

This year the Arts Council funded $18,190 in Artists in Schools grants with 21 projects reaching thousands of students in 14 schools and programs. These projects all feature professional teaching artists working with students in the classroom and will take place between January and June 2013.

The grant deadline for the 2012-2013 school year has past. Look for information on our webpage in September 2013 for the 2013-2014 grant cycle. The grant application and guidelines, as well as our Artist Roster and Art Project Menu are listed below for reference.

In order to simplify the application process we have provided an Art Project Menu as part of our roster. You may choose to apply for one of the art projects as it is written, use it as a jumping off point for another project or create a project all your own. The flexibility of this system allows teachers who already have a project and artist in mind to apply, as well as making ideas available to those teachers who need them. You do not need to use an artist listed on our roster in order to apply for a grant

"As a teacher, I don't see many other teachers in action because I am always in my own classroom, so it was a wonderful learning experience for me to watch Rick's style and technique of teaching and to learn from him as an observer while he worked with the groups; to learn from him through our discussions of the music and ways to prepare and teach it; and our conversations of what he noticed when  observing me in my rehearsal techniques and things to try that may enhance my teaching style or the learning of the students.  He pulled things out of the kids that surprised them by their reaction to the tone they produced or the technique they suddenly mastered. To me it was a grant well worth the time spent in writing it."
